Cairo International Airport is set to undergo a major transformation with the launch of Terminal 4—a smart, tech-driven expansion that aims to elevate Egypt’s status as a global travel hub. Here are seven key facts that reveal what this ambitious project is all about and why it matters.

1. It will boost Cairo Airport’s capacity to 60 million passengers per year

Once Terminal 4 is completed, Cairo Airport’s total annual capacity will rise from around 30 million to 60 million passengers—doubling its ability to handle growing domestic and international travel demand. This positions Cairo as a serious contender in regional aviation alongside hubs like Istanbul and Dubai.

2. Terminal 4 will be able to handle 30 million passengers on its own

The new terminal alone will account for half of the airport’s future capacity. That’s a massive leap in volume, aimed at relieving congestion, shortening connection times, and supporting Egypt’s rising status as a regional logistics and tourism gateway.

3. The terminal will be fully “smart” and tech-enabled

Terminal 4 is being designed as a smart terminal from the ground up. It will use cutting-edge technologies for air navigation, baggage handling, ground operations, and real-time building management. The aim is to create a seamless passenger experience powered by automation and AI.

4. It will reflect a global standard in airport design

Egypt is bringing in top-tier international consulting firms to guide the project’s design. According to officials, the goal is to make Terminal 4 a pioneering model in how airports of the future should look and operate—not just in the region, but worldwide.

5. It marks a shift toward Egypt’s broader development goals

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has called Terminal 4 a “qualitative leap,” and not just for aviation. It’s part of a wider vision to modernize Egypt’s infrastructure, improve public services, and signal that the country is ready for a new phase of global integration.

6. Financial and technical studies are already complete

The groundwork for Terminal 4 is done. With feasibility studies wrapped up and design concepts in place, the project is now moving into the execution phase. That fast pace reflects both urgency and confidence in Egypt’s civil aviation growth potential.

7. It aims to redefine the traveler experience in Egypt

More than just a place to catch flights, Terminal 4 is expected to deliver “exceptional services and travel experiences.” From biometric check-ins to smart navigation and digitally enhanced retail, it’s meant to offer passengers comfort, speed, and personalization—hallmarks of modern airports globally.
