Turkish companies with a global track record in airport development are signaling strong interest in Egypt’s growing aviation infrastructure market. With Egypt poised to become a major hub for tourism and business in the region, Turkish investors see significant opportunities in upcoming airport construction and modernization projects.

Strategic interest driven by Egypt’s tourism growth

According to Salih Mutlu Şen, Turkey’s ambassador to Cairo, the surge of interest stems from Egypt’s expanding role as a gateway to Africa and the Arab world. Ambassador Şen emphasized that Egypt’s projected tourism growth—expected to reach 30 million annual visitors—creates an urgent demand for modern, high-capacity airport facilities.

This infrastructure demand aligns perfectly with the expertise of Turkish construction firms, many of which have delivered high-profile airport projects across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Among them is IC İÇTAŞ, a company that has built 12 airports globally. Its executives, Reha Denemeç and İlkin Egemen, recently met with Ambassador Şen to discuss potential collaboration in Egypt.

Long-standing experience and local trust

Turkish companies are not new players in Egypt’s aviation scene. As Ambassador Şen noted, Turkish firms were previously involved in the construction of two terminals at Cairo International Airport—a legacy that lends credibility and familiarity within the Egyptian market.

The ambassador also highlighted the political goodwill between the two countries, along with the strong brand recognition Turkish firms enjoy among Egyptians. He cited the professionalism and operational efficiency of Turkish contractors as a key reason for their favorable reputation in Egypt’s public and private sectors.

Favorable conditions for investment and collaboration

With Egypt actively seeking foreign investment to accelerate infrastructure development, the timing is favorable for Turkish companies to re-establish or expand their footprint. Political support, market familiarity, and proven experience offer Turkish firms a competitive edge, particularly in large-scale public-private partnerships.

Ambassador Şen concluded by reiterating the strategic alignment between Egypt’s development priorities and Turkish companies’ capabilities. “These positive factors provide Turkish companies with a clear edge in doing business in Egypt,” he said.

Conclusion: A new chapter in aviation cooperation

As Egypt scales up its aviation infrastructure to match rising demand from tourists and business travelers, Turkish companies are well positioned to contribute. With mutual trust, existing ties, and a shared vision for regional connectivity, this growing partnership could play a key role in shaping the future of air travel in Egypt.
