Covid-19 pandemic changes Egypt economic priorities

Green economic practices, sustainability and the digitization of the economy are now among the top priorities for Egypt.

Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said stated that the Coronavirus pandemic put green economy and digitization among the top priorities.

El-Said stated that the Egyptian cabinet is taking steps the shift into a green economy and sustainable financing. Among these are launching the 1st green bond in the MENA region to finance projects related to environmental sustainability, like green transportation, renewable energy and water and waste management projects.

The government also released a guide for environmental sustainability standards.

El-Said also added that the government is putting a lot of efforts into moving forward with digitization to enhance response to global crisis and developing its information and communication technologies. These will help is various sectors like education, health, industry and agriculture.

The Egyptian cabinet also expressed interest in diversifying the economy and giving more space to private sector investments as well investing in training and education of labor to support the economy.
