Egypt President salary to be raised to EGP42,000

Shortly before Egypt’s presidential elections, a presidential decree was issued to raise the salary of the country’s coming ruler.
Interim President Adly Mansour released a presidential decree to increase the salary of Egypt’s coming ruler from an annual base amount of EGP12,000 and a representation allowance of EGP12,000 to a monthly base amount of EGP21,000 and a representation allowance of EGP21,000, according to CNN Arabic.

As the presidential elections are to be held on the 26th and 27th of May 2014, the newly set salary will only be applied to the coming president.

According to the decree, Law no. 99 of the year 1987 – which determines the presidents’ salary - is outdated as Egypt has gone through many political and economic changes since then.

AlShorouk newspaper reported that the State’s Council Legislative Department assured that no additional bonuses should be granted to the coming president. It added that the Cabinet had amended the aforementioned law, but it had not appeared in the official gazette yet.
