New company to handle Ain Sokhna Port, strike ends
Under the supervision of the Egyptian Presidency, Armed Forces, Ministry of Labor and Suez Governorate, an agreement was signed between the Red Sea Ports Authority and DP World, promising to re-employ all workers at the Ain Sokhna Port in a new company that is being established.
1,200 workers of Platinum Maritime Services at the port had been striking, demanding to get employment contracts with DP World. Work will immediately resume at the port, according to the agreement.
As DP World will carry all the direct and indirect expenses of the previous period - including all costs, conditions and contracts that were previously agreed upon with Platinum - the Red Sea Ports Authority will operate the containers terminal at the Ain Sokhna Port, until the new company is up and running. The latter will also offer all services inside and outside of the Customs Zone, including space, cleanliness, food, transport and others, by using the labor of Platinum Maritime Services present at the port.
