Egypt invites firms to express interest in wind power study
Contract will involve providing study on integration of wind power into country’s electricity sector Egypt’s Electricity Transmission Company has invited companies to express interest in a contract to provide a study on the integration of wind power.
The client is seeking a company to provide a study on the integration of wind power into Egypt’s electricity sector, and provide an updated wind integration grid code.
Egypt’s government has received a grant from the African Development Bank to finance the project to integrate wind power into Egypt’s power plans. The study will look at the impact of integrating up to 7,200MW of wind power into the power grid and will assess capacity and load requirements to successfully implement the wind power proposals.
The project is part of the plans to meet the rising demand for power. The local Pgesco is planning to build a 650MW power project at Suez. The new plant will replace an ageing plant of a smaller size that was commissioned in the 1950s and decommissioned four years ago.
Pgesco is also pushing ahead with a new supercritical power project at Helwan South. The facility will comprise three 650MW units. Pgesco is currently in the procurement phase for the project.
