College of Pharmacy (CPH) collaborated with Misr International University (MIU) Egypt to bring a 4-hour live training video conference.
College of Pharmacy (CPH) collaborated with Misr International University (MIU) Egypt to bring a 4-hour live training video conference on March 1 to 84 practising pharmacists in Qatar. The training involved presenters from University of South Carolina (USC) College of Pharmacy and Johns Hopkins Hospital in the US and comprised three presentations and Q&A on clinical pharmacy and health outcomes.

It included USC College of Pharmacy Executive Dean Dr Joseph T DiPiro on clinical pharmacy and achieving health outcomes, USC clinical pharmacist Dr Cecila DiPiro on counseling patients with respiratory disorders, and Johns Hopkins Director of Oncology Pharmacy Dr Rowena Schwartz on counseling patients and their families on cancer treatment.

The video conference was CPH's second continuing professional development webinar. It formed part of a series of continuing education sessions organized by the College's Continuing Pharmacy Professional Development (CPPD) program to engage practicing pharmacists on a wide-range of health issues and processes.

CPH members Dr Sherief Khalifa, Dr Nadir Kheir, Tammy King, along with QU ITS team, coordinated the organization, preparation and execution of the event.

The pharmacists from various hospital, clinic and community pharmacy practice sites in Qatar received continuing professional development recognition from both American Accreditation Council of Pharmacy Education and CPH.

Commenting on the event, CPH dean Prof Peter Jewesson said, "The College organized these cooperative international internet-based activities to bring high caliber professional development content to pharmacists in the state of Qatar. Over the next year, we will partner with local clinical affiliates and international organizations towards expanding the delivery of quality content that will further advance the knowledge and skills of pharmacy practitioners using technology that brings people from around the world together to share ideas and learn together. In this way, our profession will become even better prepared to meet the challenges of the Qatar National Health Strategy". He urged pharmacists who were unable to attend to visit the CPH website for the lecture-captured presentations and Q&A.
