80% of consumed milk in Egypt does not abide by quality control
Studies showed that 80% of consumed drinking milk in Egypt does not abide by any quality control or testing, according to AlAhram newspaper, referring mainly to the non-packed, fresh milk.
In light of efforts to improve the milk-quality in Egypt, an international company and an Egyptian industrial group have signed an agreement to build the first factory worldwide that produces 1000 tons of milk and juices a day. The factory’s establishment will cost 270 million Egyptian Pounds and will be completely run by robots, in order to ensure the sanitation and purity of the products.
Additionally, the preservation techniques of non-packed, fresh milk is usually inapt, which causes health difficulties for its consumers – especially children – and leads to the spread of illnesses and diseases, such as tumors.
The amount of pasteurized, quality-control-friendly milk amounts to about 20%, which is very low compared to other countries, like the Gulf states and major industrial countries, according to Engineer Mohamed Farag Amer, President of the Investors’ Union in Burg ElArab ElGedida. According to Amer, the milk in such countries is 100% pasteurized and healthy.
Egypt produces about 4 billion liters of milk annually, of which 67% is used for cheese-production and other dairy products. The rest is used for drinking milk, which is why it is very important to gradually enhance its quality.
