Prime Minister Essam Sharaf has said his government is keen on developing and upgrading the transport sector in Egypt.

In his speech, read out on his behalf by Industry Minister Mahmoud Issa before the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) conference, which was held in Cairo, Sharaf stressed commitment to upgrading the transport sector through real partnerships with the private sector to create an investment-friendly climate.

The regional and international economic landscape entails that all countries act to lure more investments, Sharaf said, stressing that it is just what the government in Egypt is working on. Egypt is full of promising investment opportunities in transport infrastructure and logistics, he added.

He noted that the local market is part of free trade agreements with several regional economic gatherings. Egypt is also working to turn the canal area into a international investment zone, he said. Part of the plan is to establish exclusive industrial zones in the vicinity of the canal for investors to benefit from the location, close to the international waterway, which will save them time and money, he added.
