The Cost Estimator will prepare and issue estimates for the various Business Units; mainly (but not limited to) petrochemicals. He will also assist with the development and maintenance of standard methods of estimating, utilizing third party proprietary estimating software where possible.
A Cost Estimator will also ensure that all projects are accurately priced according to specifications and drawings. Communication between various involved parties is an important component to success in this position. A Cost Estimator must be assertive, innovative and have a desire to succeed.
The Cost Estimator shall be reporting to Head of the COST ESTIMATION function. Within the project team organization, the COST ESTIMATOR will be reporting to the Project Manager, or to the Proposal Manager, depending on the project execution phase

Key responsibilities:
• Analyze drawings, specs and other documentations to define the detailed scope of the Estimate
• Prepare preliminary time, cost, material and labor estimates for planning purposes and detailed itemized estimates based on final plans and specifications
• Familiar with quotation and contract types (Cost Plus, Lump Sum, etc.)
• Participate in the analysis of proposals to determine optimum price structure and possible profit margin
• Define, in conjunction with Head of the COST ESTIMATION function the basis, assumptions and formats to be used in developing an estimate.
• Develop and maintain historical database for future pricing purposes
• Prepare estimates for Job Change Notices/Orders on running projects
• Read and interpret drawings for accurate take off, and prepare lists of estimated quantities and man-hours for various Engineering work on a given proposal, project or C/O
• Familiar with Value Engineering techniques and can conduct special studies to develop and establish standard man-hours and related cost data or to affect cost reduction
• Maintain current Unit Rates and Material cost data
• Develop and maintain estimating procedures and methods

Skills

EDUCATION:
- Min. 7 years exp.: 4y in Cost Est. in Petrol. & Process Ind. or sim. Ind., other 3y prac. exp. in opera./const./maint. and/or management in the Petrol. & Process Ind. or sim. Ind.

LANGUAGES:
- Fluent spoken & written English

REFERENCES:
- Proven track record of occup. sim. pos. in projects & proposals in the relevant sector

SOFT SKILLS:
- Problem solving attitude
- Able to recognize the diff. equip. & bulk mat. specs. (sizing, duties & mat.)
- Able to professionally read & understand var. eng. deliv., vendor's specs & dwgs.
- Strong team work attitude & ability to motivate the team
- Effec. computer skills; MS Office Software & other comp. / discipline specific software
- Effec. communic. skills both verbally & in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside & outside
- Cost estimation software experience is an asset

PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE:
- Good knowledge of eng./design scope, job working instruct./proc., good project control practices in estimation & cost eng. & overall awareness of projects in the field of Petrol. & Process ind.
- Knowledge of design standards & proc. would be an asset
- Ability to follow verbal & written instruct.
- Ability to work under stress, with min. superv., handle stressful sit. & meet deadlines
- Good report writing abilities
- Ability to establish & maintain liaison with design team
- Exp. in opera./const./maint. and/or management in the field of Petrol. & Process Ind. or sim. Ind.
- Awareness of the req. of the Quality Manag. Sys. & Environm. Manag. Sys., along with appl. codes & work instruct.
