The world to reach 9.7bn people by 2050 and 11bn by the end of the century led by India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Indonesia.
The UN's World population prospects report named Egypt one of the 9 fastest growing populations in the world. Egypt's population is expected to reach 121 million by 2030 and 160 million by 2050 and by 2100 the population is expected to reach 225 million.

The growth rate in Egypt represents a challenge to the education system and the economy in general. And although the government had managed to drop the population growth rate from 3.5% in the 70s to 1.7% in the 2000s the rate increased again to reach 2% after 2011.

The government is focusing its efforts on family planning campaigns like the "Two is enough" campaign it launched last year.
