Egypt chemical firms eye Kenyan market

The firms, which kicked off their sixth trade fair in Nairobi said removal of regulatory barriers made it easy to conduct excursions across Africa.

This will involve setting up a new PVC plant with a capacity of two lakh tonnes and will also enhance its ethylene manufacturing capacity.

The technology is there to reduce the environmental impact of Egypt’s chemical sector, but finance and capacity are still lacking.

The projects included establishing a factory to produce bio-ethanol from molasses, the output of which would reach 100,000 tons of molasses annually.

Egypt has proposed three petrochemical projects to the UAE for a total investment of $540m, according to a senior official at Ministry of Petroleum.
