In a statement released following the Sixth Ministerial Meeting of the EMGF, which was held Thursday in Cairo, the ministers expressed their commitment to continue to engage various parties — including governments, business partners, and the private sector — to mobilise financing and technologies to de-carbonise natural gas and reduce methane emissions.

The forum, established in 2019 as an international organisation headquartered in Cairo, aims to establish a regional gas market in the eastern Mediterranean and enhance trade relations among the member states.

The forum comprises Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Greece, Cyprus, Italy and Israel.

Today's meeting saw the participation of officials and representatives from Italy, France, the European Union, the US, and the World Bank.

The meeting approved the forum’s action plan for 2022, the statement added.

The meeting also saw the selection of Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum’s Undersecretary Osama Mobarez as the EMGF's secretary general for a three year term starting January 2022.

The EMGF’s next ministerial meeting is scheduled to be held in Cairo in June 2022, according to the statement.
