Egypt discusses Amazon expansion plans in the local market

Head of the General Authority of Free Zones and Investment (GAFI) Mohamed Abdel Wahab on Tuesday discussed at a meeting with Omar El Sahy, the General Manager of Souq.com, an affiliate of the E-commerce giant Amazon, the company's plans for expansion in the Egyptian market.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed an Amazon's proposal to develop transport services, through using private cars to transfer light cargo.

Abdel Wahab told Sahy that GAFI would provide the necessary support for the company to expand its trade activities in the country and apply its digital transformation plans.


The GAFI head promised to provide the spaces required to establish new warehouses and distribution centers for the company in all governorates, underlining the importance of assisting emerging companies to promote their products and open up new exporting markets for Egyptian products via E-commerce platforms.

On his part, the General Manager of Souq.com, reviewed the company's investments in Egypt, noting that it has more than 10 distribution centers nationwide and hires around 1,000 employees.
