Egyptair is to launch a year-round route between Cairo and Dublin later this year.

The four times weekly service will commence on June 5, and will be the first ever direct scheduled route between Ireland and Egypt.

Flights will operate on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, using a 142-seater A320 neo aircraft configured with 16 business class seats and 126 in economy.

Dublin airport said that an estimated 14,000 passengers travelled between Dublin and Cairo on indirect services last year.

The Egyptian Ambassador in Dublin, His Excellency Khaled Sarwat said the new route would “further enhance and deepen the bilateral relations between Egypt and Ireland and boost the mutual investment, trade and tourism between our two friendly nations”, while Vincent Harrison, Dublin airport’s managing director, said:

“We’re very pleased to welcome Egyptair to Ireland and to add Cairo to Dublin Airport’s extensive route network. Cairo is one of the world’s great cities and we will be working closely with Egyptair to promote this new route, which will be welcomed by both business and leisure travellers.”
