Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW): Host, Competition and Agenda

Countries across six continents are coming together to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week, an initiative to inspire young people.

For one week, millions of young people around the world will join a growing movement of entrepreneurial people, to generate new ideas and to seek better ways of doing things. Countries across six continents are coming together to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week, an initiative to inspire young people to embrace innovation, imagination and creativity. To think big. To turn their ideas into reality. To make their mark.

This year over 100 countries are participating in the GEW.

Local Host:
As the outcome of the aspirations of a group of entrepreneurs dedicated to the vision of advancing entrepreneurship and SMEs in Egypt and further linked to the Middle East region at large, MCSBE, being a dynamic, young organization and the Middle East affiliate of the International Council for Small Business (ICSB) has strived to strengthen its position and impact in the Egyptian entrepreneurship environment as a key hub within the region. The members of MCSBE include representatives from government bodies, universities, business associations, banks, venture capital companies, donors, consulting companies, large corporations and entrepreneurial companies. Its mission is to advance entrepreneurship and SME development throughout the Middle East and North Africa region.

Egypt:
In Egypt from 14th – 20th November 2011, Global Entrepreneurship Week will connect young Egyptians everywhere through local and national activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators. Students, educators, entrepreneurs, business leaders, employees, non-profitable organizations, government officials and many others participate in a range of activities, from online to face-to-face, and from large-scale competitions and events to intimate networking gatherings.

Idea Competition (ID):
As part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), the IC is organized by MCSBE in collaboration with media partners Egypreneur and Dare n Deal for individuals who have ideas (projects, inventions, solutions to problems) that can benefit Egypt.

Eligibility:
Category 1: Students attending any school in Egypt.
Category 2: Undergraduate students attending any university in Egypt.
Category 3: Anyone below the age of 35.

Idea Competition Guidelines & Process:
1. Contestants are to prepare a short video expressing their own unique idea in the following structure:
- Contestant Name & Info (age, faculty, university, job..)
- Overview of idea
- Challenges to the idea & solutions to overcome them
- Other supporting information
2. The video is to be uploaded online to: youtube.com
3. Contestants are to fill the registration form located at http://bit.ly/fekralbokra while providing the link to the uploaded video no later than November 17, 2011 at 9:00am.

Idea Competition Process:
1. A high profile panel will select the winning idea based on the following criteria:
- Originality & uniqueness of idea
- Ideas aiming to promote development in the field chosen by the contestant, for the greater good of Egypt.
- Ideas aiming to promote efficiencies & cost reductions in the field chosen by the contestant
- Feasibility & practicality of the idea and its implementation
- Comprehensiveness of the presentation
2. The top ten contestants will be invited to present their ideas in front of a panel for final selection of the top three winners.

Prize:
The winning contestants from each category will be awarded:
1st Place: EGP 4,000
2nd Place: EGP 2,000
3rd Place: EGP 1,000
