Orascom Construction seals two deals for Cairo Metro Line 4, high-speed train

Orascom Construction signed two contracts with the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) to contribute to two major transportation projects in Egypt.

The first contract included completing the civil works for the Greater Cairo Metro fourth line.


Upon completion, the 42-kilometre fourth line will have the capacity to transport 2 million passengers daily. It will run through 38 stations from 6 October city to the Great Pyramids area.


Egypt is constructing the first phase of line four with a $308 million loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).


The second contract signed between Orascom and the NAT covers building a joint venture to execute the Mechanical, Electromechanical, and Plumbing (MEP) works for all stations of the first line of the new high-speed rail system in Egypt, which will run from Ain Sokhna to Marsa Matrouh.


The first line, stretching 675 kilometres, will comprise 21 stations serviced by 15 high-speed trains, 34 regional trains, and 14 freight trains.
