Ethiopia, Egypt Sudan select consulting firms for dam on Nile

Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan have selected two consulting firms which will conduct additional studies on the possible impacts of Ethiopia’s controversial dam over Nile against the lower riparian countries, reports said on Friday. The winning firms were not announced thus far but would carry out two studies namely “Water Resources/hydropower stimulation modeling and Trans-boundary Environment and socio economic assessment” as recommended by the International Panel of Experts.

The meeting has successfully concluded the selection of the consulting firms, one of which will be the leading firm and the other will be sub consult to carry out the studies. The meeting was held in a good spirit and cooperative,Ethiopia’s water, irrigation and energy minister Alemayehu Tegenu said.

The Technical National Committee of the three countries will disclose the selected firms once it receives clearance from the lead consultant.

The technical national committee will inform the winning firm in a formal letter and the names of the firms will be announced to media once we have done that, Egypt’s water minister professor Hossam Moghazy said.
