Egypt is to adopt electronic payment of electricity bills under the auspices of “Bee”, an electronic payment solutions company. This new service is a collaboration with South Cairo Electricity Company and Egyptian company “e-finance”, said Bee in a statement.

The company added that the new service is designed to make bill payments easier for individuals as they can pay their electricity bills in one of 20,000 Bee outlets across Egypt and inquire about the amount to be paid. Users have to enter the electricity metre number and will get a receipt once the action is completed.

South Cairo Electricity Company claimed that around 10 million citizens will use the new service.

The introduction comes after a successful trial in a Zamalek supermarket was undertaken to test the efficiency of the service in June.

Bee stated that they are intending to work in collaboration with government entities to offer other electronic payment services.
