Liberia and Egypt have signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to further strengthen their existing cooperation in Maritime capacity building, etc.

The document was signed in the Egyptian port city of Alexandria on Wednesday 21 March 2012, with Liberia’s Maritime Commissioner Binyah C. Kesselly, signing on behalf of the Government of Liberia, and Professor Dr. Ismail Abd-Elghafar, president of the Arab Academy for Science and Technology & Maritime Transport, signing on behalf of the Egyptian government.

The ceremony took place in the presence of the Egyptian Ambassador to Liberia, Maher El-Adawy.

He hailed the occasion as another milestone in the ever increasing relationship between the two brotherly countries in such an important sector which, he noted, would have a direct impact on the people of the two African nations.

Ambassador El-Adawy also disclosed that another legal document would be signed soon between the two countries in the field of Maritime Safety.

He added that the two new documents, coupled up with the Mutual Recognition of Certification Agreements, signed between the two brotherly countries in the area of training, certification and management of Seafarers in 2011, would pave the way for unprecedented cooperation in maritime fields.
