Egyptians dominate the top 100 Arab celebrities

46 Egyptians on the list, Amr Diab in the lead and Nancy Ajram the most followed celebrity in the region.

For the first time Forbes ranked the 100 top Arab celebrities and none else but “Al-Hadaba” Amr Diab ranked at number 1 with more than 30 million followers on social media. Diab has been in the field for more than 30 years.

The list included big names in the Egyptian music and cinema industries like Adel Emam, Ahmed Helmy, Shereen, Ahmed El-Sakka, Hassan El-Shafei and Mohamed Mounir. The last Egyptian on the list was Amr Youssef who ranked 99, with more than 4.5 million followers.

The ranking was based on number of followers on social media and years in the business.

The ranking also took into consideration if the personality had memorable activities outside the field like being appointed a goodwill ambassador for the UN. That’s why Adel Emam with 16 million followers came at number 6 ahead of Ahmed Helmy who came at number 11 with 19.5 million followers.

Nancy Agram came as the most followed celebrity in the region with a number of followers, exceeding 48 million. Lebanon followed after Egypt on the list with 24 entries.

Presenters like Raya Abi Rached and Mustafa Al-Agha also made it to the list, while Hassan El-Shafei was the only composer.

Forbes explained the use of social media followers as a criterion saying that it is the meter for influence in the digital age and the sign of the personal brand success.
