  • Short biography

  • Dr Torsten Schwarz, born in 1961 in Germany, is one of the pioneers of online-marketing. In 1994 he set up one of the first web servers worldwide. Since 1996 he has been holding workshops regarding internet advertising and has written ten books on this topic. The trade journal “acquisa” included him in its list of the 36 thought leaders in marketing and distribution in 2004.

Schwarz spent his schooldays in Cairo (Egypt) and studied at the Freie Universität Berlin and later at the Technische Universität Berlin. He worked as a geologist on research projects in North Africa. In Nigeria he discovered the country’s first large deposit of bauxite at the Mambilla-Plateau. After his graduation with “summa cum laude” (excellent) he led the bauxite research alliance Eurolat. In this role he set up a web server as data base in April 1994. His fascination for new media as a marketing instrument caused him to switch to management consultancy. In 2000 he completed his geologic career with a state doctorate.

Dr Schwarz is a lecturer in marketing and e-commerce at several German universities. His book “Permission-Marketing – macht Kunden süchtig”, which was published in 2000, has been one of the top ten business bestseller of the Financial Times Germany for six months. For two years he has been head of the marketing department of a software developing company. Mr Schwarz is heading the research group Online-Marketing of the German internet economy association (Verband der Deutschen Internetwirtschaft eco e.V.) and active member of the professional associations DDV, BVDW and GSA. Besides being a visiting lecturer at the Fachhochschule Worms and Fachhochschule Pforzheim, he is a lecturer at the Bayerische Akademie für Werbung (BAW) and the Deutsche Dialog Akademie (DDA). In 2005 he initialised the web portal marketing-BOERSE which is, today, the largest German-speaking service provider register in the field of marketing.
